A Real Retreat for Educators
Feeling flattened? Tired? Wired? Overwhelmed?
Solution– Practicing Presence Summer Self-Care Retreat for Educators.
I usually write about what I would like to read. Now I’m planning the event I’d like to attend. And I’d like your input.
I would like to attend a retreat in the summer, when school has just ended, and I can kick off summer by refueling and restoring.
I would like a retreat that is full of choice. It needs to have the right balance of research, practice, application and reflection. I want to rest and restore, but not just relax. Truth be told, I want to learn something, from intelligent people who know what they are talking about because they’ve not only done their research, they’ve actually experienced it.
I want to be in a space that allows me to cultivate space– space in my mind and in my body. I don’t want to sit in a desk, or be seated close to other people. I want to be able to sit on the floor, sit on a chair, or stand without feeling awkward.
I want to wear whatever I want. I want to choose whether or not to talk to others, or to simply retreat within. I’d love to go for lots of walks or sit outside and reflect on what I’ve learned on an Adirondack chair.
I want a comfortable bed and a beautiful room to sleep in. I want to be able to open a window when I sleep and hear the sounds of birds in the morning and possibly an owl at night.
I want the option to take a walk, swim in a pool, or read on a porch.
It would be amazing if there was a billiard table on site. I want to eat good food. I’d love to have the atmosphere of a winery, but yet still have the option for a good craft beer.
I want to feel good when I’m there. I want lots of space and light.
I want to sleep through the night.
I want to wake up feeling well rested and opt for some mindful movement and meditation. I want a nutritious breakfast in a room with lots of windows overlooking something natural.
I don’t want to rush to get ready, I might want to take a bath.
I want to attend professional development mini- sessions that are well designed, and include visual, auditory and experiential information. I want each session to be brief, about 45 minutes and be followed by a time to process and reflect.
I’d love to arrive and find a welcome gift in my room.
I want to wish it would never end.
